PERFORMERS iNDEPENDENT (Pi) was an independent artists' collective, experimenting and exploring the traditional, modernist and contemporary spaces in the cultural paradigm. The Kolkata International Performance Art Festival was initiated by Pi in 2012 to annually open up the city of Kolkata to diverse traditions of performance, performitivty and interventions. Since then Pi has got fragmented but KIPAF has taken deeper roots.

The festival aims to be a platform for dialogue between site, art, politics and culture. KIPAF acknowledges the nascent nature of Performance Art in India, and will always play a role in the pedagogy of performance art.
The festival is be held between 23rd-26th January every year.

EARTH PEOPLE

(This article was prepared as a report to the National Gallery on February 24, 2016)

In late January I participated in the Kolkata International Performance Art Festival 2016 ( KIPAF16 ). Until there at dawn and still dark, the whole view of the city looks sketchy, it just feels very cold air -disana was winter.  I stayed at home Tapati Chowdhury, the behavior of the same family as in Indonesia, parents and close attention. Immediately felt comfortable and nice course, I feel the warmth of the house in general, just the type of food being different.

In the afternoon Tapati Chowdhury invited me to join a group KIPAF16 who are doing promotions in New Market The delegation KIPAF16 start sale stylish open session , someone draws use chalk on the floor, in the middle of the open area of the market.People who were in the market immediately gathered around the image. Kapur who brought colorful, we were all given a lump to also respond, homeless children also volunteered to finish the picture.

A group among KIPAF16 seemed to walk around carrying a copy of the sheet photo captions event, a small bucket for donations. Then a stall was held, there KIPAF16 shirts, postcards documentation of performance art , as well as other skills trinkets.

The next day we met for the orientation of the entire point of showing, where KIPAF16 explore the northern region city of Kolkata. First of all met outside the Girish Park Metro station, the road to the park Hedua. In the park there is an old pool that looks more like an artificial lake, but the pool is surrounded by a fence high enough.

In the exposure they convey described how they see the city, such as the location of our meeting place (park Hedua), many city parks or gathering place for the city center; but there is always a guardrail that makes the people within, can only be viewed.

KIPAF begins to take place since 2012, at the initiation by the organization Performance Independent (Pi). Interest Pi through KIPAF is to open up the city of Kolkata as a  performance art, and their interventions. So the selection of locations mostly in open areas. Every year there are new cruising spots in the city of Kolkata, based on the behavior of people and material around that point.

As explained in the meeting in Hedua park, theme KIPAF16 is Rev Kill A Mocking Art, still holding spirit-power menduduk open space. As the blog KIPAF16, this theme has a set of questions: "What makes us pursue a priority, why is it necessary? Where do we find intimacy in performance art How do we interrogate the aspirations of a very intimate, which prompted us to action? "

So the question is followed by several derivatives: "How do we position between performance art and the performing arts? Whether a road is the space? The relationship between ketinampilan, action and authorship? "

Chirantan Mukhupadhaya ask my response on the question sets. Then I replied that a very similar thing also walked in I thought. I continue to learn and ask about how to burn ideas, prioritize various choices kekaryaan path. Questioning how to organize an idea into a concept, questioning a form of work that represents the crowds so it is not difficult to catch the audience; and development through conversations pros / cons after presenting a paper.

Tried to make the right concept without excessive or need, find a way that is close to or at least not very hard to catch the audience's work. If there is one art discipline that is not my master, then I will invite some other colleagues to co-exist.

Questions and answers on the theme of explanation, again present in my head during a meeting in Taman Hedua. Then the team KIPAF16 announced the schedule for the next four days, the locations to be visited. At the end of the meeting we were told to choose a location that we want to use to perform. 

Afterwards we all went to another park named Company Bagan. There are a large field, it appears many groups playing cricket . In addition there are various small fenced garden, with sculptures and reliefs.





Through our small road leading to the Pathuriaghata, the oldest residential area in the northern city of Kolkata. We entered a private building rather enclosed, like a boarding complex of 3 floors quite extensive. Some looked worn for office space, meeting rooms and an area for prayer. In the middle there is an open space that is wide enough. All the participants can choose the entire ground floor as an arena of performance art .

Afterwards our road to Baghbazar station adjacent to the River Ganges. Not immediately boarded the train, we walked around the station area. The carriage lane is the oldest track that surrounds the city of Kolkata, which is very important for transporting merchandise from various corners of the city. Once out of the station seemed very busy with large trucks carrying various merchandise, and out of the station no special doors, many traders and people sleeping on the floor.

Ride the Chakra Rail we headed Majerhat Station. The journey to Majerhat takes an hour, so the train in many ongoing discussions and most started improvising, playing music to take action to respond to the space inside the train.

On arrival at the station Majerhat, some people do performance art in an empty carriage lane. There are sleeping on the tracks, there are crowding each other to lean and surrounds krumunan with thread. None of the writing on the wall. While some people are still playing music.

Soon some of the security guards present. They ask for fear of action some of the artists in the region could endanger lives. It appears some teams KIPAF16 communicate with security officers, while a procession of  performance art still underway, as did the singing. After a long time, the organizers inform that the security guard asked for some photos of the three cameras to later remove it, but the funny thing is before it is presented to the clerk files the photos are already in the move to laptops .

For me the way to negotiate with the officer Pi is quite interesting. According Tapati Chowdhury they've ever tried to apply for a license, but what happens is they throw into various government entities. He said the government should categorize confusionperformance art where.

Besides the officers usually came when there were reports from the public, vice versa, people can defend if they are not disturbed. Generally, people enthusiastically watch (even engaged) in performance art , some quite amused / represented by the appearance of the performers.
On the other occasion Rahul Bhattacharya explains how they approach the one designated point to the viewer arena performance art They will make a visit to that point regularly, observe the variety of activities that take place, then do someperformance art is simple. All of the stages are implemented, so that people who used to be in a location not so surprised when the festival takes place.

Afterward we returned to the station Baghbazar, then sat on the edge of the small port of the Ganges. Observing the activity of the bank, a lot of people sitting there.

Came the series of performance art at the start, lasted for three days solid with a total of 46 artists participated. Not including several other artists who involve themselves directly in open session . Some artists made performance more than once, there is also often respond to several other artists.

Almost all performance art has a deep meaning. Not all artists are in an obvious location, nothing appears suddenly in krumunan, and appear when you move from one location to another. There is also conducting long duration.

My first catch was the appearance of Anupam Saikia in Pathuriaghata. Appearance inspired Anupam issues behind suicide rohith Chakravarti Vemula, which occurred a week earlier.


Rohith a PhD student on the same campus, now his death sparked a series of protests across India. Rohith suicide note published in the newspaper, he did commit suicide as a political statement on caste discrimination they experienced. He Dalits, the lowest caste fifth, which now is not written in sequences of caste system of Varna (Hinduism).

Anupam protest the situation. White thread draped across his body like the Brahman (the highest caste), wearing a cap and gloves. Then look in the mirror while he tarnished his face, gave a bindi on her forehead and then wrote "I Have Becoming A Monster" in his body.

In KIPAF16 not only the appearance of Anupam inspired by the suicide of rohith, there are a lot of performances that raised about this.  Are continuously display the face rohith is the only way to continue the struggle, or make a move to fill space here and there quickly and shout is more uniform way, or burn-burn newsprint lot also wrapped around the body with yarn / tape / rope / bandages, paint poured a lot of red / black is the only way to convey the message?

Appearance Inder Salim in the same location the next day also took the same issues, but appear not uniform. He tends chatting audience. Open the paper with the name of rohith, put placards Hidustan Ratan. Then menegulingkan miniature trees, explaining that the tree is usually sacred. Then read the suicide note rohith while continuing to question the discrimination so much in India.

Inder Salim stated that the Republic of India has given the Bharat Ratna to officials in communities that are limited to 45 people. KIPAF16 become a place for him as a series of performance Hindustan Ratna to give it to the 45 residents of the radical Indian, who works and lives by making a difference to the movement of minority struggles throughout the country.  The first Bengal Ratna is given to Rohit Veluma on January 24, 2016, a suicide note rohith mark resistance.  As published in indianexpress.com, suicide notes rohith:

I do not believe in the after-death stories, ghosts, or spirits. 
If there is anything at all I believe, I believe that I can travel to the stars. 
And know about the other worlds. 
If you, who is reading this letter can do anything for me, I have to get 7 months of my fellowship, one lakh and seventy five thousand rupees. 
Please see to it that my family is paid that. 
 have to give some 40 thousand to Ramji.

No other series of performance art that reap the audience smile. Suppose presentation "SAC Travel" by Vidisha Saini and Alex Yudzon. They  made a brief appearance each day, just before lunch. They looked really like to present a package of business outing.However, if truly listened to, an explanation many mensatirkan conditions that made the tourists to the city of exotic city.

The sentence they are open to: Travel SAC is a progressive-minded company, responsible for local-global and moving specializing in innovative product lines that alleviate the difficulties traveling abroad. 

Then they will share flops to plastic clothesline clipped on the nose audience. While continuing to tell how much fun buying the product (flip clothesline) is. How do we photographed the poor villages and see it as a tourist commodity.

Two performances were among Ali Asgar. Along the way from Pathuriaghata to the Company Bagan, Ali took a selfie photograph using his mobile phone.




Ali approached people for photos with him, to wear a veil, lipstick, mirror and draping bring the image of the Hindu god. Some people looked comfortable as well as volunteering time with her photo.

Now almost all accounts sosmed we could see millions of people doing the same thing, a photo using the front camera mobile phone ( selfie or wefie ). Either the picture smelled philosophical statement or advertisement of an area, even the monks do the same thing in the celebration of Vesak at Prambanan.

Ali comes from Bangladesh, when she was wearing lipstick and hooded, made me imagine living as a gay (especially transvestites) in the country must be very hard.

Other appearances by Monica Nanjunda, sitting cross-legged in silence all day in the corner of the building corridors Pathuriaghata. Monica sat paved with blue tarpaulin, and a bag of rice nearby. Constant motion slowly and take the rice grains piecemeal, sometimes forming letters, or simply accumulate partial to one side. Then he scattered the rice is inserted back into the bag.

I chose to appear in Taman Hedua. Bring chicken egg white had  my fill with Alta.Put it on the scrap of paper on the bench tiles,  under the garden light. Then the eggs I solved  using the forehead, while posing like kneeling, when the eggs  raw is broken, fused with red yellow Alta.

Alta is a red dye from the insects that live in trees ( Lac insect ),  usually used when the Hindu rituals in marriage and death. When married  bride will wear this at his feet, with motifs  before entering the house. The difference in the funeral ceremony, coloring  engraved on foot without the image, as a symbol of appreciation for the taste  of grief.





I brought the newspaper Jakarta Post that I took before flying to  India. It was still fresh news about alleged terrorist bombing in Jakarta,  Lima news of the day's newspaper tells about the various conflicts that are  taking place in the world.

When photos of this appearance uploaded on the Facebook page KIPAF16,  they menjudulinya "Civilisation and Fragility", I immediately  loved it.


It's been years I questioned about conflict / war in the world  that takes a lot of loss of life, especially religious intolerance.  Confidence someone who should have been very subtle in the core of the soul are often  forced to bubbling out, forcing others to  believe the same.

Apart from the various penampilantersebut, the thing that makes me happy  is when some spectators invite discussion, immediately after I  perform.


A father while holding her baby, also very concerned with  the development of a collection of Hindu fanatics in India. Like the development of  groups of fanatical Islam in Indonesia. We are equally concerned  imagine the next generation, whether it would be fanatical and  discriminatory in the name of religion.


The same thing was also shown by Chobi Zulfiqure and Shubho O Saha,  they sat biting a piece of paper bearing rafters  religion which in streak.

Appearance is very simple but lasting. When we browse the  internet news, we will find that these days, a lot of events  deadliest in the world due to war in the name of religion. Although  we all doubt, whether man has no conscience and  justifies the blood of other humans.

The whole story I described above is only one-eighth of the various  activities of a very solid case, for one week Kolkata International  Performance Festival 2016.


It was a relief to meet people from different countries and share the  anxiety of the same. It seems novel Bumi Manusia - Pramoedya Ananta  Toer, which tells about the condition of the pressures of life in the colonial era  the Netherlands still has not changed. The colonization continues, only  this time as a ghost who diligently change clothes, believed to exist but not  be identified.

"The problem at hand--silence=action or inaction? There is an urge to  rethink the word action politically. Is action also a state of being where the subject  is acted upon?  For the performance artist these questions need to be articulated by rethinking the space of action. How does one spatialize silence rather than silencing the space. Can silence be that placelessness, that invokes neither utopia nor dystopia--rather a kind of heterotopia--an interstices-- which betrays the very inadequacies of classification of space. What can silence and acts of hearing/listening add to this conundrum? Does silence not suffer from its own inadequacies as a split objectof performance between  noise, non noise, sound? Also can we start thinking of the act associated with silence--silencing. can we start thinking action as Silen(S)ing?"

KIPAF(Kolkata International Performance Art Festival) is an annual event organized by independent artist group. The festival was initiated in 2013 to annually open up the city of Kolkata to diverse  traditions of performance and interventions. It aims to be a platform for dialogue between site, art, politics and culture. KIPAF was conceived to address the nascent nature of Performance Art in India, and continues to play a significant role in the practice, pedagogy and outreach of performance art in South Asia. Our basic concern is to work out the formal , circumstantial, performative aspects of our everyday practices of  hospitality.


The Festival happens every year from 23rd to 26th January.KIPAF is also becoming special as many students from institutions like Gov. Art College,Kolkata , KALA Bhavan Shantiniketan, Fine Arts College Surat, Kashmir Art College travel to Kolkata, as observers and participants of the Open section. The independent nature of KIPAF has been maintained by constantly developing alternate modes of fundraising, involving street paintings, live art, sticker and post card campaigns. Since 2015 KIPAF is taking a workshop based turn, as we invite artists to come a week before KIPAF and initiate workshops. KIPAF ‘13,’14,‘15 & 16 have got participation from Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines, Japan, Israel, Belgium ,Italy , Uk, Indonesia, Australia, France, Switzerland, USA & various parts of India. 

Unable to offer the artists any remuneration or travel expenses to and from Kolkata, we take responsibilities of the curated artists’ stay, food and local conveyance in the city. We will share the same with all participants as much as our limits allow.

MUNDANE PERFORMER | PERRFORMATIVE REPORT BY SRINIA CHOWDHURY



WHEN I WAS TRAVELLING, I CAME ACROSS A GROUP WHICH CALLS THEM PERFORMANCE ARTISTS. WHO ARE THESE PERFORMANCE ARTISTS?? WHAT IS PERFORMANCE ART??

That day… DAY 1


I SAW: a MUNDANE PERFORMER Tapati lying on the tracks of the train at Majherhaat station.
 I UNDERSTOOD: nothing.
MY QUESTION: doesn’t she have a home?







As I moved ahead I SAW: a group of MUNDANE PERFORMERS beside the tracks. Lazing and grazing. Someone started tying them with threads. A beautiful man called ‘Bula Da’ started singing while others joined in.
I UNDERSTOOD: nothing.
 
MY QUESTION: Are they drunk?





DAY 2



Next day again I met the same group...
I SAW: A mundane Performer Anupam who became a monster in solidarity with Rohit vemula. Dressed in a Ghagra and Takia he had lost his identity. Smeared in ash he walked around with a mirror as a metaphor to the society who is literally the killer.
I UNDERSTOOD: The solidarity.

MY QUESTION: why are they protesting inside a closed space?



I SAW: A mundane Performer Sarojini Lewis served her emotions and experiences straight out of her poetry journal on leaf plates.


I UNDERSTOOD: People weren’t so attentive until she spoke a few lines of her journal.

MY QUESTION: Is it always necessary for a performer to be loud and attention seeking?

                                           




I SAW: A not so mundane performance by Inder Salim. He was giving away Hindusthan Ratna to the dead Rohit and he promised to send it via the brahmical plant tulsi.




I UNDERSTOOD: Performance is a metaphorical depiction to the ongoing conditions of the society just like any other art.

MY QUESTION: None! He made himself clear!

 




I SAW: Mundane performer Atish Saha soul cleansing and scrubbing.


I UNDERSTOOD: Introspection is important

MY QUESTION:  What is the difference between performance art and play?










I SAW: 2 mundane performers as SAC Travel company executive branding and selling a mundane product.

I UNDERSTOOD: the satirical metaphor.
MY QUESTION: Can such satires be understood by non artist or common man? The beautiful satire must reach out to the public to protect them against the branding mosters! Way to go Alex and Vidhisha (said my heart)


I SAW: A Mundane performer Sumana pin a saree and make a tube like tunnel and passing herself through the tunnel.
I UNDERSTOOD: The journey of a woman. The change a woman goes through in a lifetime is much more than a man.
MY QUESTION: Journey is inevitable but to break the shackles and create your identity does one need to be very persistent? Like Sumana finally broke the tunnel and came out!!









I SAW: mundane Performer Rohit’s surreal way to lend his solidarity to Rohen Dumbre and a gentle protest to our current government. From taping himself to burning papers and taking an ash bath he did it all.
I UNDERSTOOD: He successfully caught people’s attention and had audience participatition.
MY QUESTION: Doing unusual actions generate curiousity. So is performance an attention seeker?






I SAW: mundane performer Ali clicking selfies with gods on the streets and shops. He dressed feminine and hung a shiva’s photo across his neck like a necklace depicting himself as an Ardhanarishwar.

I UNDERSTOOD: he occupied a certain space on the roads of Kolkata and generated much crowd curiousity. Most people refused get selfies clicked with him because people are do not want a real Ardhanirshwar, they only want that in the mundane idols.




MY QUESTION: Was the agenda of this art understood by the common man?


I SAW: a gorgeous mundane performer Amruta in a park draped in polythene bags across her body and stood silently on a hill of rocks.





I UNDERSTOOD: She was condemning the unfriendly plastics ruining the environment. But later found out she had a different concept.

MY QUESTION: What were the audience in the park thinking?



I SAW: mundane performer Hariyo and Sakina make a human hug chain like a spiral with mundane unknown people.

I UNDERSTOOD: that an interactive performance makes the society little closer to one’s art.



MY QUESTION: Should all the performances involve society participation because ultimately most of the performance art it seems is a moral message for the society and for the society enlightenment.




I SAW: mundane performer Asim make a huge circle chain of newspapers and stood in between the circle and burnt the papers. Later he loses his identity by smearing ink over his face while still standing in the circle.
I UNDERSTOOD: such unusual actions in public generate great audience. Maybe it is a great way to express our message to the society.
MY QUESTION: should we start using this art to spread social messages seriously?







I SAW: mundane performer James rattling against the fences in Hedua park.
I UNDERSTOOD:  Just like most of us he is also suffocated with so many barriers over mundane things.
MY QUESTION: Should we all start rattling fences to protest? Is I time we wake up from our slumber?








I SAW: Mundane performer Ferial breaking eggs with her head. From inside the eggs came out blood. It was her way to show the human conflicts being rooted right from the embryo.


I UNDERSTOOD: Performance art has the capability of creating highly metaphorical work such that the residue post the performance looks like a neat painting.
MY QUESTION: why have I been blind towards this form of art for so long?



Spectating so much of art in one day was over whelming. I went home and slept like a baby
DAY 2




Next day I co incidentally met a performance artist yet again who in turn took me to a whole lot of more performances.
 I SAW: Mundane performer Chithra asking question who am I?
I UNDERSTOOD: she has a story of identity crisis.
MY QUESTION: couldn’t this issue be raised in any other medium? Why performance?



I SAW: Mundane performer Amjad writing loads of messages of protest against religion on the floor at different places.


I UNDERSTOOD: Writing messages at different places generated audience curiosity. Maybe Playing with audience psychology is one of the main objectives of performance art.
MY QUESTION: mmmmmmmmmmmmmm…………



I SAW: mundane performers Sam and Ellie creating a very strong visual across the given space.
I UNDERSTOOD: performance art sometimes needs to create an awe factor to gain audience.
MY QUESTION: mmmmmmmmmm…… wao!! What just happened?





I SAW: mundane performer Monica silently performing through the day. She sat counting rices.
I UNDERSTAND: Durational Performances are an attempt to being persistent.
MY QUESTION: Did people notice her performance at all?




I SAW: mundane performers Ushnish, Shoumik and Shibayan giving AWAZ to people.
I UNDERSTOOD: they involved audience by tieing them with threads and connecting the threads with random people. That was the best way to gather people and send across their message that shackles cud be broken only if you attempt to.
MY QUESTION: mmmmmmmmm……





I SAW: SPONTENIOUS MUNDANE PERFORMERS using the residue of the earlier performance and creating a new performance of protests of different sorts.


I UNDERSTAND: Performance exists everywhere. One has to have the fire to find and present it.
MY QUESTION: Is performance art that simple to access between all forms of art?
 






I SAW: mundane performer Devesh mourning for Rohit Vemula. Smearing ink to depict the loss of the identity and cutting his finger to write his name in blood was all a protest


I UNDERSTOOD: performance artists are pushing parameters to use their body as a medium for their art.
MY QUESTION: Is it time we make way for performance seriously? Are the fine artists and visual artists listening?


I SAW: mundane performer Madhvi and Romain starting a durational performance. Sadly I didn’t see it ending as ………….



 


I SAW: another mundane performer Palash silently dressed in white robe and blowing ballons while his face was covered with inverted pins that he had pasted. He looked almost like a painting of Gustav Klimt.

I UNDERSTOOD: Sometimes the essence of the performances lie in the props they wear and carry. Props are very important element in performance art.
MY QUESTION: What was the agenda of that performance BTW?




I SAW: mundane performer Jewel depicting death in protest against Rohit Vemula suicide. His suffocating himself with thread and painting himself silver generated much audience but it was when he climbed the platform wall and raised his hands with a feather suddenly loads of crows started flying. It looked like a beautiful painting and was very metamorphic.
I UNDERSTOOD: The beauty of this art lies in context with time and space and people.


MY QUESTION: mmmmmmmmmm………


These performers decided on changing spaces and moved in the local train of Kolkata. I now more interested in performance art followed.
Suddenly there were so many performances in the train. The local train of Kolkata was occupied!!


I SAW: Ali’s depiction of suppression in a performance, Chimuk’s knife balancing performance, Amjad’s “amader choto nodi sukiye gache’’ which is a metaphor of the displaced people who lived near river banks and their pathos.














I SAW: on the Majherhaat platform mundane performer Sagar donating peace via the symbolical shola flowers.
I UNDERSTOOD: There is much to explore
MY QUESTION: Is this art but?






Across the platform I SAW: mundane performer Dimple with L.E.D lights on hair trying to tell untold stories of common man.
I UNDERSTOOD: That sometimes it’s about the visual experience created by a performance artist.
MY QUESTION: mmmmmmmmm…….










I SAW… many more mundane performers Sreedhar, Bhuvanesh, Prasad, Toontoon, Priyanka doing bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla …
ok I was spaced out… I SAW but didn’t UNDERSTAND except maybe Toontoon’s performance which condemned the duality and hypocrisy of the society towards a girl child………..
 and this time I HAVE NO QUESTIONS…..




DAY 3
Next morning, I was addicted to this performance art so I went once again to get some more visual treat.
Just when I reached I SAW: a mundane performer Santhosh. His face was half covered with jute in a way he could not talk. But he wrote on a blank copy. Most people who didn't notice him for 1st few hours were forced to notice him as he was sitting there for duration of 6 hours. Audience started participated and communicating to him via his notebook.
I UNDERSTOOD: sometimes durational performances are important to make the presence felt.
MY QUESTION: Persistence is the key to performance art?








I SAW: mundane performer Pramod performing the last rites for the  Rohit Vemula
I UNDERSTOOD: Art has the power to convey messages. Performance art is a very tangible medium.
MY QUESTION: Art could represented so mundanely?





I SAW: mundane performer Bisaji was making his performance inside a very dark claustrophobic room. As I entered he asked me ‘Can I trust you?’ He asked me a couple of times. When I said yes he finally lit a candle and told me a little secret. I blew off the candle and left as sign to hold his secret. I went again after 1 hour to see the progress and this time I knew his secret. So we made a better conversation. It was interesting
I UNDERSTOOD: Interactive performance is capable of delivering messages.




I SAW: mundane performers Pinto and Khandakar trying to break barriers of religion differences and telling love has no religion.




I SAW: mundane performer Adriana rubbishing the hush hush mensturation as a taboo. The visual of the performance was surreal yet beautiful. It was a treat to my eyes.


I UNDERSTOOD: Performance art is serious business!!


I SAW: mundane performer Ali breaking all stereotypes to depict his choices and desires with the freedom. Because every individual has a right to choose. A rather bold performance which made many uneasy including me!
I finally UNDERSTOOD: performance art has the capability to evoke people.




Meanwhile I SAW Rahul and Anirban allegorically excavating blood from the ice and ground. He used the residue of the last performance to make a brand new performance.






I SAW: Mundane performer Chobi with an inspiring performance where she assures that each human has the capacity to overcome their hurdles.












I SAW: mundane performer Arpita Sinha making a performance of the taboo of non-virginity being an issue.





I SAW: Janet playing the sound of demolition through her speakers and walking on the ghats of Ganges. The performance took another direction when the sound became harmonius with the sound of the waves of the river.




I SAW: mundane performers Chobi and Subho performing to protest against the everlasting hindu muslim clash.










 I SAW: mundane performer Subho mocking the hypocrisy of the society where man is forced with choice of food. How religions force people to make food choices.




I SAW: mundane performer Manoranjan performing the story of common man being inside the net of the society and its commitments.







I SAW: mundane performer James performing to show the trapped self.




I SAW: mundane performer Vinay mocking the rituals to unknown.









I SAW: Rohen yet again making a performance and chanting ‘’we are collecting ash not cash’’. For and sensisble man the performance can make you guilty!!






I SAW: Mundane performer Sumana Chopping roses in a butcher shop. The performance was a beautiful visual and pulled loads of public attention and curiosity as there was an awe factor attached.

 


I SAW: mundane performer Toontoon dressed in silver foil from head to toe and wearing black glasses and walking on the crowded streets of north Kolkata. The performance was extremely eye catching and public went crazy over this unusual dressing . This monster was running loose on the streets. All parameters of normal art rules were pushed through in this particular performance.
